Synopsis
If baby loves chewing on your finger, he'll love chewing on the nubs of this simply brilliant teether! No fancy bells or whistles...it's just perfectly designed from a baby's point of view. That means it's truly sized for grasping (many are just too big), with the ideal degree of "give." (Hard enough to ease sore gums, but soft enough to protect little mouths.) Maybe at first glance, you'd overlook this orange or yellowish sea-mine-looking toy. But that would be a mistake. Some might have success with Sofie the giraffe or those teething toys that you put in the fridge. We had success with this soft, squeezable, phthalate-free, squeaking toy. Our son can--on some occasions--spend a half an hour being entertained by this.
What's really good about it are the tentacles/soft spikes that stick out. This allows your child to grasp it him/herself and try and jam one of the other tentacles/soft spikes into the mouth so that s/he can massage his/her gumlines with it. (Our son doesn't have any visible teeth yet, but he's probably close.) Some teething toys are circular, but they are too wide for the baby's small mouth to have any part of the toy actually reach the gums--which is frustrating for the baby. Particularly when s/he tries to massage the gums a little farther back from the front teeth area. But the soft spikes on this... Read more

Our nearly 6-month old son received this as a Christmas gift and I just gave him a little preview playing session :) When it arrived, I looked for assurance from the packaging that it is free of dangerous chemicals since it is, after all, a toy designed for his mouth! The packaging didn't proclaim that it's safe, so I began to feel concerned.

I just got this for my 3 month old son. He's just at the beginning stages of handling toys, but he was able to hold this and get it into his mouth easily. My only issue is the color, I would like to have been able to pick another one. I do love this, however, and so does my son. (It's already been a great relief to me. He is nursing and won't take a pacifier, but with this he holds it and sucks on it so easily, he was able to soothe himself.)
